The Harmonic Synthesizer was a monophonic synthesizer[1] that was first produced in 1974 by the American Rocky Mount Instruments[2] The case was made of black vinyl and had four chrome legs to support it. It features two sets of 16 harmonic drawbars. It also had a number of effects suchas as tremelo, portamento, noise modulation, oscillator sync and an arpeggiator. The digital circuitry ensures tuning stability during use.[3] A total of 250 units were produced and only four units were ever sold[4] in Europe.[5]

AM & FM controls

AM and FM control with Voltage Controlled Filters. (VCF)

Arpeggiator

The sequencer can be programmed to play notes from top to bottom, bottom to the top or random notes when several keys are played at once.

Presets

  • Clarinet[6]
  • Flute
  • Pulse
  • Horn
  • Reed

Power supply

The unit is powered by an internal 115 V AC power supply.

Notable users

  • Jean-Michel Jarre (Used on Oxygene Part 4, Oxygene Part 5, Third Rendez-vous, Oxygene 11).
  • Aphex Twin[7]
  • Clark Ferguson[8]
  • Carlo Curley
