}}Rochelle Oliver is a film television and stage actress. Her film work includes 1918 in 1985, On Valentine's Day in 1986, Courtship in 1987, and Scent of a Woman in 1992. Her television includes a recurring roles Barbara Lamont in the early 1970s series The Best of Everything and as Judge Grace Larkin on Law & Order. Her stage work includes Toys in the Attic and Toys in the Attic for which she received a Clarence Derwent Award in 1960.

Background

At the age of seventeen, Oliver started studying acting with Uta Hagen.[1]

It was while she was a cast member on the off-Broadway production of The Brothers Karamazov that she met her fellow cast member and husband to be, James Patterson. By 1960, they were living together in their small apartment on the upper East Side. Their marriage lasted until his death from cancer in 1972.[2][3] In 1997, she became the second wife of Fritz Weaver and they remained married until Weaver's death in 2016.[4]

Oliver is also an acting teacher and has been teaching acting since 1970.[5] She is currently on the faculty of HB Studio in New York City.[6]

Career

Oliver's early stage appearances include The Brothers Karamazov at Village Gate, New York City from 1956-1957. In 1957, she was in The Cave Dwellers which ran at the Olney Playhouse. Also that year she was in The Diary of Anne Frank which was at the same venue.[7]

In 1958, she was appearing on television in the "Saw My Baby There" episode of Naked City. In 1963, she played the part of Jean Lowell in the episode "The Noose" from The Defenders.[8] In 1970, she had a recurring role as Barbara Lamont in the series The Best of Everything.[9][10] In 1976, she played the part of Dr. Marsha in Paul Mazursky's Next Stop, Greenwich Village.[11] From 1993 to 2003, she appeared as Judge Grace Larkin in Law & Order.[12]
