Professor Rodney Vaughan is a Canadian engineer currently the Sierra Wireless Professor and Director of RF Mobile Communication Lab at Simon Fraser University at Vancouver, Canada.[1][2] He is a significant figure in his field, with 10 papers each cited over 100 times.[3]

Education

He received the Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, and the Ph.D. degree from Aalborg University, Denmark, all in

electrical engineering. He has spent most of his career as a designer, working on telephone networks with the New Zealand Post Office (now Telecom NZ Ltd); and developing electronic instrumentation and

communications systems with Industrial Research Limited. He received URSI Young Scientist Awards in Fields and Waves, and in Electromagnetic Theory.[1][4]

In 2003, he joined academia as professor of electrical engineering and became the Sierra Wireless Professor in Communications, at the School of Engineering Science, Simon Fraser University, British Columbia, Canada. His current research involves acoustic and radio wave propagation, signal processing, communications techniques, and the theory, design, and evaluation of arrays and multiport antennas for communications and industrial food heating. He was Associate Editor (compact antenna elements and arrays, mobile antennas, multipath propagation, and diversity/MIMO techniques) for the IEEE Transactions on Antennas and Propagation, and has guest-edited Special Issues. He is a 2004 Fellow of the BC Advanced System Institute, an

URSI Correspondent, and continues as the New Zealand URSI Commission B (Fields and Waves) representative. In 2006, he served on the international panel for reviewing the funding and knowledge base for ICT in the UK; and in 2011, on review panels for the Canadian Communications Research Centre, and for the ICT Centre of the CSIRO. He is a professional engineer, also registered in BC, Canada, an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer for the Vehicular

Technology Society member, and an IEEE Fellow.[1]

He has guest-edited for several special issues including the recent IEEE Antennas and Propagation Transactions Special Issue on Wireless Communications. He is a Fellow of the B.C. Advanced System Institute, a Fellow of the IEEE, an URSI Correspondent, and continues as the New Zealand URSI Commission B (Fields and Waves) representative.[1]
