Ronan Noone is an Irish-American playwright based in Boston, Massachusetts. Personal lifeNoone grew up in the town of Clifden in Galway, Ireland.[1] He studied politics and math at the University in Galway,[2] and moved to Prague when he was 23. He arrived at Martha's Vineyard at the age of 24, after the St. Vincent de Paul Society sponsored him for a green card to America. He worked as a bartender and wrote a play about sexual abuse by priests, which later became The Lepers of Baile Baiste.[1] He teaches playwriting at Boston University,[3] Lesley University[4] and the Walnut Hill School of the Arts.[5] Noone was a member of the inaugural class of playwriting fellows at the Huntington Theatre Company,[6] and serves as an artistic associate at the Vineyard Playhouse on Martha’s Vineyard.[2] CareerNoone studied playwriting at Boston University under the tutelage of Derek Walcott.[1] His play, The Lepers of Baile Baiste, was the recipient of the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival New Play and the American College Theatre Fund's Student Playwriting Award; it was published by Samuel French.[7] In 2004, the play opened in New York City.[8] Noone followed Lepers with two other plays that completed his Irish Trilogy: The Blowin of Baile Gall and Gigolo Confessions of Baile Breag.[1] Noone's other works include Brendan, Compass Rose, Scenes from an Adultery and Little Black Dress.[2] Brendan opened at the Huntington Theatre in 2007.[9] The Atheist, his one-person play, was produced at the Huntington Theatre Company and the Williamstown Theatre Festival, with Campbell Scott as its lead.[10] The Atheist made its New York debut at Center Stage in 2006, starring Chris Pine.[11] In 2017, the play was revived at the Boston Playwrights' Theatre with a female lead, played by Georgia Lyman. Noone himself directed the production and designed the set.[12] In 2015, the Huntington Theatre Company produced The Second Girl, Noone's play inspired by Eugene O'Neill's family drama Long Day's Journey Into Night.[13] The production was directed by Campbell Scott. The play was published in 2016 by the Eugene O'Neill Review.[14] Noone's works have been developed at the Sundance Theatre Workshop, New York Stage and Film, The Orchard Project, The Lark Theatre and Theresa Rebeck’s Vermont Writer’s Retreat, American Conservatory Theatre (ACT) in San Francisco, and The Hermitage Artist Retreat in Florida.[2] References1. ^1 2 3 {{Cite news|url=http://archive.boston.com/ae/theater_arts/articles/2009/09/27/irish_born_playwright_ronan_noone_makes_a_local_home/?page=1|title=Putting down roots|last=Cullen|first=Kevin|date=2009-09-27|work=Boston.com|access-date=2018-02-10}} {{authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Noone, Ronan}}2. ^1 2 3 {{Cite web|url=https://www.bu.edu/cfa/profile/ronan-noone/|title=Ronan Noone {{!}} College of Fine Arts|website=www.bu.edu|language=en|access-date=2018-02-10}} 3. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.bu.edu/playwriting/profile/ronan-noone/|title=Ronan Noone » Playwriting {{!}} Blog Archive {{!}} Boston University|website=www.bu.edu|language=en|access-date=2017-12-27}} 4. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.lesley.edu/about/faculty-staff-directory/ronan-noone|title=Ronan Noone {{!}} Lesley University|website=www.lesley.edu|language=en|access-date=2018-02-10}} 5. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.walnuthillarts.org/about/faculty|title=Faculty {{!}} Arts and Academics {{!}} Walnut Hill School For The Arts|website=www.walnuthillarts.org|language=en-US|access-date=2018-02-10}} 6. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.huntingtontheatre.org/artists/Ronan-Noone/|title=Ronan Noone {{!}} Huntington Theatre Company|website=www.huntingtontheatre.org|access-date=2018-02-10}} 7. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.samuelfrench.com/p/4816/the-lepers-of-baile-baiste|title=The Lepers of Baile Baiste|website=www.samuelfrench.com|access-date=2018-02-10}} 8. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.bu.edu/bpt/2017/03/18/remembering-derek-ronan-noone/|title=Remembering Derek: Ronan Noone » Boston Playwrights' Theatre {{!}} Blog Archive {{!}} Boston University|website=www.bu.edu|language=en|access-date=2018-02-10}} 9. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.irishmassachusetts.com/profile_noone.php|title=Boston Irish Tourism Association - Profile: Ronan Noone|website=www.irishmassachusetts.com|access-date=2018-02-10}} 10. ^{{Cite web|url=http://wtfestival.org/main-events/atheist-the/|title=Atheist, The {{!}} Williamstown Theatre Festival|website=wtfestival.org|language=en-US|access-date=2018-02-10}} 11. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2006/11/30/theater/reviews/30athe.html|title=The Atheist - Theater - Review|last=Gates|first=Anita|date=2006-11-30|work=The New York Times|access-date=2018-02-10|language=en-US|issn=0362-4331}} 12. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.bostonglobe.com/arts/theater/dance/2017/01/27/master-manipulator-works-all-angles-the-atheist/mxkWkBlwam9pt19u70X34K/story.html|title=A master manipulator works all the angles in ‘The Atheist’ - The Boston Globe|work=BostonGlobe.com|access-date=2018-02-10}} 13. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.wbur.org/artery/2015/01/26/second-girl-noone|title=Ronan Noone Audaciously Takes On Eugene O’Neill|website=www.wbur.org|language=en|access-date=2018-02-10}} 14. ^{{Cite web|url=https://www.nuigalway.ie/about-us/news-and-events/news-archive/2017/july2017/president-of-ireland-michael-d-higgins-addresses-eugene-oneill-conference-at--nui-galway.html|title=July 2017 - NUI Galway|website=www.nuigalway.ie|language=en|access-date=2018-02-10}} 7 : Irish emigrants to the United States|American dramatists and playwrights|People from County Galway|Boston University faculty|Lesley University faculty|Living people|Year of birth missing (living people) |
