词条 | Roselle, Missouri |
释义 |
The community is on Missouri Route 72 about 13 miles west of Fredericktown and five miles east of Ironton. Stouts Creek flows past the south of the community and the St. Francis River is about 1.5 miles east.[2] HistoryA post office called Roselle was established in 1895, and remained in operation until 1959.[3] Some say the community was named after Roselle, a circus performer who paid the town a visit, while others believe the community's name is an amalgamation of Rose and Ella, the daughters of a pioneer citizen.[4] References1. ^{{GNIS|751964}} {{Madison County, Missouri}}{{coord|37|35|58|N|90|31|33|W|type:city_region:US-MO_source:GNIS-enwiki|display=title}}{{MadisonCountyMO-geo-stub}}2. ^Missouri Atlas & Gazetteer, DeLorme, 1998, First edition, p. 57 {{ISBN|0-89933-224-2}} 3. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.postalhistory.com/postoffices.asp?task=display&state=MO&county=Madison | title=Post Offices| publisher=Jim Forte Postal History | accessdate=2 November 2016}} 4. ^{{cite web | url =http://shsmo.org/manuscripts/ramsay/ramsay_madison.html | archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20160624071647/http://shsmo.org/manuscripts/ramsay/ramsay_madison.html | archivedate = June 24, 2016 | deadurl = no | title=Madison County Place Names, 1928–1945 | publisher=The State Historical Society of Missouri| accessdate= November 2, 2016}} 2 : Unincorporated communities in Madison County, Missouri|Unincorporated communities in Missouri |
