The hospital, which replaces the Royal Hospital for Sick Children (the Sick Kids) in Sciennes, will form part of the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh campus at Little France, in Edinburgh. The facility will provide care for children and young people from birth to around 16 years of age. It will be managed by NHS Lothian. HistoryIn 2005, NHS Lothian decided to develop plans to move the Sick Kids from its present site to the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh at Little France on the south-east edge of the city. A business case for the project was approved by the Scottish Government in January 2012.[1] The hospital was procured under the Scottish government's non-profit distributing model in 2015.[2] The design was carried out by HLM Architects,[3] and the construction, which is being carried out by Brookfield Multiplex at a cost of £150 million, began in February 2015.[4] In August 2016, it was announced the project would be delayed[5] because of adverse weather conditions and two of the project's builders entering administration.[6] In May 2017, it was announced the new hospital would be called Royal Hospital for Children and Young People.[7] As of late 2018, construction work was still ongoing with no scheduled date for completion.[8] ServicesThe new building at Little France, which will have 233 beds,[9] will treat patients up to the age of 16.[10] It will also accommodate the department of clinical neurosciences, which will move across from the Western General Hospital, and the department of Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), which will move from the Royal Edinburgh Hospital.[11] References1. ^{{cite web |url=http://www.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk/GoingToHospital/Locations/RHSCDCNRIECampusWorks/BusinessCase/Documents/RHSC%20DCN%20OBC.pdf |publisher=NHS Lothian |title = Outline Business Case - Re-provision of RHSC and DCN at Little France |date=January 2012 |accessdate=9 June 2014 }} {{Hospitals in NHS Lothian}}2. ^{{cite news |url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-26465478 |title=New Edinburgh children's hospital plans unveiled |work=The Scotsman |date=6 March 2014 |accessdate=13 July 2014}} 3. ^{{cite web | url=http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/news/health/new-sick-kids-takes-step-closer-to-reality-1-3410548 | title=New Sick Kids takes step closer to reality | publisher=Edinburgh Evening News | work=edinburghnews.scotsman.com | date=14 May 2014 | accessdate=5 January 2017}} 4. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/14696034.Edinburgh__39_s___150m_new_Sick_Kids_hospital_delayed_by_six_months/ |title=Edinburgh's £150m new Sick Kids hospital delayed by six months| publisher=The Herald | work=heraldscotland.com |date=21 August 2016 |accessdate=14 May 2017}} 5. ^{{cite news |url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-37154173 |title=New Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh delayed| publisher=BBC News | work=bbc.co.uk/news |date=22 August 2016 |accessdate=14 May 2017}} 6. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/our-region/edinburgh/delays-hit-150m-sick-kids-project-1-4208794 |title=Delays hit £150m Sick Kids project| publisher=Edinburgh Evening News | work=edinburghnews.scotsman.com |date=21 August 2016 |accessdate=14 May 2017}} 7. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.scotsman.com/news/new-edinburgh-s-sick-kids-hospital-changes-150-year-old-name-1-4433842 |title=New Edinburgh’s Sick Kids hospital changes 150-year-old name| publisher=The Scotsman | work=scotsman.com |date=1 May 2017 |accessdate=13 May 2017}} 8. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-46185173|title='No completion date' for new Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Edinburgh|date=12 November 2018|publisher=BBC|accessdate=17 January 2019}} 9. ^{{cite web|title=RHSC + DCN - Little France |url=http://www.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk/GoingToHospital/Locations/RHSCDCNRIECampusWorks/FAQs/Pages/default.aspx|publisher=NHS Lothian|accessdate=15 July 2014}} 10. ^{{cite news |url=http://www.nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk/MediaCentre/PressReleases/2017/Pages/A-new-name-for-Edinburgh’s-new-Children’s-hospital.aspx |title=A new name for Edinburgh’s new Children’s hospital| publisher=NHS Lothian | work=nhslothian.scot.nhs.uk |date=1 May 2017 |accessdate=13 May 2017}} 11. ^{{cite news |url=https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-edinburgh-east-fife-19635392 |title=New Edinburgh Sick Children's building gets go ahead |work=BBC News |date=19 September 2012 |accessdate=11 September 2014}} 2 : NHS Lothian|NHS Scotland hospitals |
