It is a subsidiary of Ryanair Holdings, and a sister airline to Ryanair, Ryanair UK and Laudamotion. Ryanair Sun was formed in 2017 to supplement its parent, Ryanair,[1] initially positioned as a charter airline without any scheduled service - a business Ryanair itself had little to no experience in till date. However, shortly after its launch, Ryanair Sun began to operate scheduled flights behalf of its parent company particularly out of Poland. Ryanair Sun is due to re-brand as Buzz in autumn 2019. HistoryInitial operations as charter airlineOn April 3, 2018, the carrier received an Air operator's certificate granted by the Civil Aviation Authority. It started operations on 23 April 2018 and the first flight took place on 26 April 2018, on the route from Poznań–Ławica Airport to Zakynthos International Airport. In Poznan and Wroclaw the carrier will use the infrastructure of already existing bases, while in Katowice and Warsaw new ones will be created. Representatives of the carrier announced that all five aircraft in the Ryanair Sun fleet will receive Polish registration numbers.[2] During summer 2018, Ryanair Sun operated one own Boeing 737-800 registered as SP-RSA. The aircraft was employed on charter flights from Warsaw-Chopin.[3] Operation on behalf of Ryanair mainlineIn September 2018 Ryanair announced the closure of its own Polish bases until 1st January 2019. Operations were to be transferred to Ryanair Sun, thus operating on behalf of its mother company. Cabin and flight crew were made redundant at Ryanair and were given the option to apply as self-employed contractors for a Polish based aviation agency, Warsaw Aviation. Warsaw Aviation itself would then lease out the self-employed contractors to Ryanair Sun.[4] In late October 2018, the then-only Ryanair Sun aircraft SP-RSA ceased charter operations out of Warsaw Chopin. The aircraft subsequently replaced Ryanair mainline capacity out of Warsaw Modlin, now operating scheduled services on behalf of its parent company.[5] Starting from November 2018, several former Ryanair-operated Boeing 737 were moved from the Irish to the Polish registry and now operated by Ryanair Sun on behalf of its parent companies scheduled flights out of Poland.[6] Rebranding to BuzzIn March 2019. Ryanair announced they would be rebranding Ryanair Sun to Buzz from Autumn 2019. Bringing back the original name of the UK budget airline Buzz (airline) brand that was acquired by Ryanair in April 2003 from KLM. Buzz will still operate scheduled and charter flights from its bases in Poland, and aims to expand its fleet from 17 Boeing 737-800's to 25 by Summer 2019. [7] FleetAs of April 2019, the Ryanair Sun fleet consists of the following aircraft:[8]
