释义 |
HistoryThe club originally consisted of countries who were affected by drought in the early 1970s. In 1973 at the height of the Sahel drought, a committee consisting of Senegal, Mali, Chad, Burkina Faso, Mauritania and Niger initiated an Interstate Committee to Control Drought in the Sahel. In 1976, a new association, the Sahel Club was founded in Dakar and had members of the inter-state committee, The Gambia and Cape Verde, multilateral agencies and member nations of OECD. The concept for founding the club was to improve collaboration between the Sahel states and OECD countries and donors. The club's aim include planning for medium term self-sufficiency in agriculture and long term socio-economic regional development.[2] References1. ^{{cite web|title=ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL IMPORTANCE OF COTTON PRODUCTION AND TRADE IN WEST AFRICA: ROLE OF COTTON IN REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT, TRADE AND LIVELIHOODS|url=http://www.hubrural.org/IMG/pdf/csao_economic_social_importance_cotton_wa.pdf|publisher=OECD}} {{agriculture-stub}}{{africa-stub}}{{philanthropy-org-stub}}2. ^{{cite journal|title=THE SAHEL: PROBLEMS AND PROSPECTS|journal=Odi: Overseas Development Institute |date=1981 |url=https://www.odi.org/sites/odi.org.uk/files/odi-assets/publications-opinion-files/6644.pdf}} 3 : OECD|Humanitarian aid organizations|Food security |
