词条 | Salem, Bastrop County, Texas |
释义 |
Originally called St. Philip's Colony, the agricultural community was first populated by slaves freed following the Civil War.[2] Since it was paired with the white town of Jeddo, it is unclear how many people lived in Salem,[1] however a two-room, one-teacher schoolhouse for 29 children was constructed in 1881. St. Philip's Church and a number of houses were already in existence when the school was built. The religious denomination of the church is unknown.[1] In 1905, the school had 55 students.[2] It merged with the Jeddo district when the county instituted a school district system in 1907.[2] The ruins of the old school still exist.[1] St. Philips Church and several houses have marked Salem on county maps from the 1940s to the 2010s, but no population estimates are available.[2] References1. ^1 2 3 {{cite web |title=Salem |url=https://lost-texas.com/2015/05/07/salem/ |website=Lost Texas |accessdate=15 August 2018}} {{coord|29|50|40|N|97|19|43|W|type:city_region:US-TX_source:GNIS-enwiki|display=title}}{{Bastrop County, Texas}}2. ^1 2 3 {{cite web |last1=Smyrl |first1=Vivian Elizabeth |title=Salem, Texas (Bastrop County) |url=https://tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/hrsvy |website=Texas State Historical Association |accessdate=15 August 2018}} 2 : Unincorporated communities in Bastrop County, Texas|Unincorporated communities in Texas |
