Samuel W. Meshack (born 9 May 1949[1]) is the honorary President[2] of the World Association for Christian Communication headquartered in Toronto, Canada. Meshack lives in Chennai where he is currently serving as Director of Higher Education of the Hindustan Bible Institute[3] since 2014.

Studies

Meshack had his ministerial formation at the United Theological College, Bangalore from 1974–1978[4] at the United Theological College, Bangalore, affiliated to the nation's first[5] University, the Senate of Serampore College, under the Principalship of Joshua Russell Chandran where he studied Bachelor of Divinity. Meshack's companions included Christopher Asir, Surya Prakash, Mani Chacko, and others who were also studying at varying years coinciding between the years' 1974-1978.[4]

After a 2-year pastoral ministry, Meshack returned to the Protestant Regional Seminary in Bangalore for pursuing a postgraduate course, Master of Theology from 1980–1982[4] specialising in Christian Ethics by working out a dissertation entitled The ethical significance of the Old Testament sabbatical institutions.[6] This time, Meshack's companions at the College included G. Devakadasham, Surya Prakash, Sydney Salins and others[4] who were also pursuing postgraduate studies but at varying intervals. Both the graduate and post-graduate degrees were awarded by the University during the Registrarship of D. S. Satyaranjan.

Meshack also pursued research studies at the University of Leicester in the field of Communication and submitted a dissertation entitled A study of the communications strategies of voluntary organisations in pursuit of development based on which the University awarded him the Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1993.[7]

Ever since Meshack completed his postgraduate studies at the Seminary in Bangalore, he began teaching at the Hindustan Bible Institute (HBI),[1] Chennai in 1982 for a couple of months and then moved over to the Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, a few yards away from the HBI. In 2001, Meshack went on a 4-year leave-on-lien and returned to the Seminary in 2004. During Meshack's second stint at the Seminary, he was made Principal in 2006, the very year when the Indian postal stamp on Bartholomäus Ziegenbalg was released at the Gurukul Lutheran Theological College, Chennai.[8] After nearly thirty years' of teaching ministry at Chennai, Meshack bid adieu to the College in 2011.
