Takeda was born in Niigata,[3][4] and now resides in Tokyo, Japan. At age 20 Takeda started working as a 3D CGI[5] designer for Sega, creating pictures of soccer and NBA athletes.[5] She became a freelance artist when she was 25.[3] After sending her portfolio to C. B. Cebulski, she began working on several projects for Marvel Comics, including X-Men, Venom, Civil War II[5] and Ms. Marvel.[3] In 2006-2008 she worked with C. B. Cebulski on creator-owned Drain series[6] In 2010 she started to work with Marjorie Liu on X-23[7] for Marvel Comics and in 2013 the two started to work on creator-owned Monstress series. The artists identified by Takeda as major influences include: Kuniyoshi Utagawa’s ukiyo-e woodblock prints, Shigeru Mizuki’s yōkai (Japanese spirits) art, and illustrations of Gojin Ishihara[8].[4] References1. ^{{cite web|title=Google knowledge graph|url=https://www.google.com/search?q=knowledge+graph+search+api&kponly&kgmid=/g/121sxks6|website=www.google.com|language=en}} {{Authority control}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Takeda, Sana}}{{Comics-stub}}2. ^{{Cite news|url=https://www.newsarama.com/35915-2017-hugo-awards-winners.html|title=MONSTRESS Wins 2017 HUGO AWARD|work=Newsarama|access-date=2017-08-15|language=en}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite book|last1=Liu|first1=Marjorie|last2=Tekada|first2=Sana|title=Monstress Vol. 2|date=2017|publisher=Image Comics|isbn=9781534305465|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=igIpDwAAQBAJ|language=en}}[https://books.google.com/books?id=igIpDwAAQBAJ&pg=PT140&lpg=PT140&dq=Sana+Takeda+SEGA&source=bl&ots=jN2piyzMJ7&sig=ZRotnQ5mQ0Jc3zHzw_nPHS-1H3o&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjmv5rilfbYAhUPLKwKHboiBLIQ6AEIYTAM#v=onepage&q=Sana%20Takeda%20SEGA&f=false bio] 4. ^1 {{cite news|last1=Kelts|first1=Roland|title=Breaking the comic book glass ceiling|url=https://www.japantimes.co.jp/culture/2017/03/18/general/breaking-comic-book-glass-ceiling/#.WmoQLLBG1aS|accessdate=25 January 2018|work=The Japan Times|date=19 March 2017}}image 5. ^{{cite web|title=Sana Takeda|url=http://marvel.com/comics/creators/1113/sana_takeda|website=marvel.com|accessdate=26 January 2018}} 6. ^{{cite web|last1=Rogers|first1=Vaneta|title=NEWSARAMA.COM: ONE TO WATCH: SANA TAKEDA|url=http://www.newsarama.com/ImageComics/Drain/STakeda.html|accessdate=26 January 2018|date=15 November 2006|deadurl=bot: unknown|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20061115094638/http://www.newsarama.com/ImageComics/Drain/STakeda.html|archivedate=15 November 2006|df=}} 7. ^1 2 {{cite news|last1=Harper|first1=David|title=Sana Takeda on the Beauty and Darkness of Monstress - SKTCHD|url=http://sktchd.com/art-feature/sana-takeda-on-the-beauty-and-darkness-of-monstress/|accessdate=25 January 2018|work=SKTCHD|date=9 February 2016}} 8. ^{{Cite web|url=http://www.ufunk.net/en/japon/gojin-ishihara-26-illustrations-japonaises-des-annees-1970-pour-faire-peur-aux-enfants/|title=Gojin Ishihara – 26 Japanese 70’s illustrations to scare kids||date=26 July 2010|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20150620061117/http://www.ufunk.net/en/japon/gojin-ishihara-26-illustrations-japonaises-des-annees-1970-pour-faire-peur-aux-enfants/|archivedate=20 June 2015}} 4 : Living people|Japanese illustrators|1977 births|Hugo Award-winning artists |
