释义 |
San Marone is a Roman Catholic church located in the lower town of Civitanova Marche, in the province of Macerata, region of Marche, Italy. It is presently administered by the Salesian order. HistoryThe present church is located at a site supposedly commemorating where the maryrdom of the patron saint of the town, San Marone, was martyrized in the 2nd century. A church was erected by the 9th century to house his relics. The ancient church and the surrounding hamlet were almost razed in the medieval period by the townsmen of Fermo. In the 19th century, this church was rebuilt in a Gothic Revival-style under the designs of Giuseppe Sacconi. The brick facade is decorated with a central rosette, and the windows are narrow, except for a mullioned series in the belfry of the bell tower. Restorations after the damage from the second world war, some of the earlier foundations were uncovered. The main portal of the facade has a late nineteenth-century fresco painted by Sigismondo Nardi.[1] References1. ^Comune of Civitanova, Tourism entry on church. {{coord|43.305547|13.722870|format=dms|type:landmark_region:IT|display=title}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Marone Civitanova Marche}} 3 : 19th-century Roman Catholic church buildings|Gothic Revival architecture in Italy|Roman Catholic churches in Civitanova Marche |
