Sean O'Malley (born October 24, 1994) is an American mixed martial artist who competes in the Bantamweight division of Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). A professional competitor since 2013, the undefeated O'Malley was featured on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series, winning by knockout.

O'Malley trains in Glendale, Arizona at The MMA Lab led by head trainer John Crouch.[2]

O'Malley fought his first five fights of his career in Montana, before leaving to fight in North Dakota and eventually fought for Legacy Fighting Alliance where he got a highlight reel knockout over David Nuzzo.[3]

After his win over Nuzzo, O'Malley earned a spot on Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series when he took on Alfred Khashakyan. O'Malley beat Khashakyan with a stunning knockout in the first round and was awarded a UFC contract.[4]

Professional career

O'Malley made his professional debut on March 6, 2015 Intense Fighting Championship 17, taking on Josh Reyes.[5] O'Malley won with a leg lock at 1:33 in the first round.

O'Malley's UFC debut came against Terrion Ware in the TUF 26 season finale. O'Malley won the fight via unanimous decision.[6]

O'Malley stayed undefeated in his most recent fight, against Andre Soukhamthath at UFC 222.[7] He won the fight by unanimous decision, despite injuring his foot in the third round.[8] This fight earned him the Fight of the Night bonus.[9]

O'Malley was expected to face José Alberto Quiñónez on October 6, 2018 at UFC 229.[10] However, O'Malley announced that he was out of the fight on September 30 due to a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation.[11] On October 25, O'Malley received hip surgery while waiting to receive judgment pending his potential violation.[12] Subsequently, O'Malley was suspended for six months by the NSAC after testing positive for ostarine. He will be eligible to return in March 2019.[13]

Personal life

O'Malley is a marijuana enthusiast[14] and a big fan of Nate Diaz.[15] He has a significant interest in gaming. On June 6, 2018, O’Malley joined gaming organization OpTic Gaming.

He was previously following a plant based diet.[16]
