It was established in 2008.[5] The Institute has been named after Shri. Shivappa Gurubasappa Balekundri (born May 5, 1922), who was a Civil Engineer and an irrigation expert. He was the chief engineer and architect of Malaprabha, Ghataprabha, Alamatti and Narayanapur dams of the south, north and eastern regions of Karnataka State. He is best remembered today as Second Visvesvaraya. The digital library is also equipped with internet connection for browsing technical journals and other educational sites for research and project purposes.[24] HostelThe institute has three hostels, two for girls and one for the boys.[25] WiFiThe institute is equipped with wired broadband internet connection of 30 Mbit/s bandwidth.[26] IT CentreThe Information Technology Centre ( ITCentre) caters to the installation, maintenance and repair of the Computers,printers and UPS’s of the institute. The centre is also responsible for the operation of the WiFi facility, the digital library and the language lab. The college website is also maintained by the IT Centre.[27] TransportationTransportation facility is provided to the students and staff.
