{{audio|Shabqadar.ogg|pronounce}}) is a town in the Charsadda District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. It is located around 25 kilometres north of provincial capital Peshawar[2][3].

Overview and history

Shabqadar is a tehsil head quarter of Shabqadar Tehsil in Charsadda District[4]. The famous attractions of Shabqadar are Shabqadar bazaar[5] and Shabqadar Fort[6]. The fort is made of mud and stone. It is designed by Sikh architect Tota Ram in 1837. Currently it is under the control of Frontier Constabulary and has 1800 personnel of the force are trained here. Former UK prime minister Winston Churchill once stayed at this fort during his service and part of expedition in the North West Frontier of India[2][7]. The town was burnt by the Mohmands in 1897, and it has since been rebuilt.

Majority of the people living in Shabqadar are Pakistani but a sizeable population of Afghans also live here[8]. Most are Muslims with small minority are Christians[9][10]. Major language is Pashto.

Education

Shabqadar Town is the home of many excellent public and private educational institutes. The most notable educational institutes in Shabqadar are Government Degree College Shabqadar Charsadda[12] and Govt Girls Degree College Shabqadar.[13] The most notable private institutes are ICEL College Of Engineering and Literacy and National College.[14]
