It serves as the official residence of the president of East Tennessee State University. HistoryThe house was built in 1920-1921 for Ross Spears, a businessman.[2][3] In 1928, it was acquired by Henry P. Bridges, a businessman.[2] Bridges renamed it Shelbridge for his wife, Shelby.[3] In the 1970s, the house was donated to East Tennessee State University, and it became the president's house.[2] The first president to live in the house was D.P. Culp; the family moved in in 1973.[3] Since 2012, it has been the home of President Brian Noland.[4] Architectural significanceThe house was designed by architect D. R. Beeson in the Colonial Revival style.[2][3] It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since December 14, 1995.[1] References1. ^1 {{NRISref|version=2013a}} {{National Register of Historic Places}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Shelbridge}}{{Tennessee-NRHP-stub}}2. ^1 2 3 {{cite web|url={{NRHP url|id=95001477}}|title=National Register of Historic Places Inventory/Nomination: Shelbridge |publisher=National Park Service|author= |date= |accessdate=May 24, 2018}} With {{NRHP url|id=95001477|photos=y|title=accompanying pictures}} 3. ^1 2 3 {{cite news|title=Spectacular Shelbridge|url=http://www.johnsoncitypress.com/gallery/Spectacular-Shelbridge|accessdate=May 24, 2018|work=Johnson City Press|date=November 25, 2014}} 4. ^{{cite news|last1=Brown|first1=Jessica|title=Shelbridge: Taking a Stroll around the President's Home|url=http://easttennessean.com/2016/03/03/taking-a-stroll-around-the-presidents-home-shelbridge/|accessdate=May 24, 2018|work=East Tennessean|date=March 3, 2016}} 4 : National Register of Historic Places in Washington County, Tennessee|Colonial Revival architecture in Tennessee|Houses completed in 1920|East Tennessee State University |
