{{Other uses|Shields (disambiguation)}}Shields, also called Escutcheons, are one of the four suits of playing cards within the Swiss deck along with Acorns, Bells and Roses. Characteristics As its name suggests, the shield symbol is a stylized depiction of a warrior's shield in yellow. The coat of arms varies from deck to deck. In the German language, the shield is called Schilten. It corresponds to the suit of Spades in the French deck and the suit of Leaves in the German deck. History The shield originates from the suit of Swords in Latin suited cards.[1] See also References [1]{{Playing card}} 1 : Card suits |
