Delhi University, JamiaMiliaIslamia, Agra, Meerat, Hissar, Patna, Garhwal etc. Also, offered guidance to Indian and foreign scholars of sociology, anthropology, Romani-nomadic Studies, literature, culture and education from time to time. Published over 500 books in English and Hindi, mostly on sociological, anthropological, and cultural themes, nomadic communities and Encyclopedic works, by leading publisers including NBT, PD and NCERT viz. English- Nomads of Himalayas, Gaddis of Himalayas, Roma ___ books, a socio-history of Ex-criminal communities, Encyclopedia of Indian Tribes (12 Volumes), Encyclopedia of Social Science (50 volumes), Encyclopedia of Indica (200 volumes). In Hindi-SmajikVigyan Hindi Vishwakkosh (Hindi Encyclopedia of Social Science (5 volumes)), SamajikVigyan Hindi PralekhKosh (2 Volumes), Collection works of Dr. B.R.Ambedkar and 25 collection of poems viz. Agni-sagar (Epic), Yayawari, Eklavyaauranyakavitayean etc. Some books have been translated into Urdu, Panjabi, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Tamil etc. Contributed in Children’s literature also. Lessons prescribed in the textbooks of NCERT, Delhi University, Panjab education Board, Bihar Text Books.
Feciliated in the country by Delhi University, BhartiyaVidya, Bhawan, Hindi ShahityaSanmelan, NahariPrachariniShabha, Council for Child Education, Authors’ Guide of India, Indian Writers’ Association, All India Translators’ Association, etc. for achievements in the field of literature and humanities. Was honored by Gottington University, London university, and various Roma organizations various countries for the best contributions particularly in the field of Gypsology and social sciences. Indian Research Association conferred upon their highest research award ManavikiAnusandhan Shiromani for research work on nomads of the world. Shashi is a visiting professor at the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), the president of the International Academy of Children's Literature and chairs International Institute for the Study of Nomadic Civilizations.[3] He served as the honorary editor of Collected Works of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar which was published in eight Indian languages by the Indian government.[3] He is a member of the jury for the Delhi Gaurav Awards.[14] The University of Colombo honoured him with DLitt (honoris causa), making him the first recipient of DLitt from the university in Anthropology.[3] The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian award of Padma Shri in 1990.[15] Selected bibliography
