Singri is a place in the district of Sonitpur, in the state of Assam, India. It is situated in the bank of the Brahmaputra river. It is known for Singri Tea Estate and Gupteshwar Temple as well as the ancient ruins of Vishwakarma's Temple. HistoryAs mentioned by the great master Jigme Lingpa in the 18th century, Singri has been the pilgrimage site for Tibetans and Bhutanese, since the 14th century. DemographicsThe tea estate and its adjacent places are inhabited majorly by tea-garden workers. According to data of Census of India, 2011, Singri has a total population of 3,722 among which 1,897 are males and 1,825 are females.[1] 1,172 of the total population are workers. 1,032 are male workers while only a mere 140 are female workers. The actual figures are speculated to be higher. Important placesSingri Tea EstateSingri Tea Estate is run by Hoograjuli Assam Tea Co. The main sources of livelihood of the inhabitants comes from their work in the tea garden. There is a factory and an adjacent office in the same compound. The scenery of the tea garden is soothing along with the hills in the background. Gupteswar TempleGupteshwar Temple is located along the bank of river Brahmaputra. People from around Assam and abroad come to Gupteshwar Temple during Maha Shivratri Guptshewar temple is the pre-historic temple of lord Shiva. The story behind the construction of the temple is: once the sringhi rishi was meditating in the Singri hills. By his medition the rakshasas were jealous and chased him. He ran and entered a pool to hide from them. A large cfenter lies down the hills of guptshwar – the Tinali center. A large fair with various attractions, rides such as ferris wheels and a circus takes place during the festival. The ruins of Vishwakarma's TempleThis ancient ruin is a perfect spot for some calm and natural beauty. Various sculptures and carvings of the walls are present in the ruins. The pieces of walls with carvings on them are laid aside the main path for easier viewing. A fair takes place during the festival of Vishwakarma every year.
