The design is out of production.[1][2][3] The boat was built by Vandestadt and McGruer Ltd in Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada between 1982 and 1987, with 120 examples completed.[1] The designer, Hubert Vandestadt, is the nephew of Dutch boat designer Ericus Gerhardus van de Stadt.[1] DesignThe Sirius 28 is a small recreational keelboat, built predominantly of fiberglass, with wood trim. It has a masthead sloop rig, an internally-mounted spade-type rudder and a fixed fin keel. It displaces {{convert|6700|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} and carries {{convert|2600|lb|kg|0|abbr=on}} of ballast.[1][2] The boat has a draft of {{convert|4.30|ft|m|abbr=on}} with the standard keel.[1] The boat is fitted with a Japanese Yanmar 1GM diesel engine of {{convert|7.5|hp|kW|0|abbr=on}}. The fuel tank holds {{convert|19|u.s.gal}} and the fresh water tank has a capacity of {{convert|24|u.s.gal}}.[1] The boat has a PHRF racing average handicap of 192 with a high of 199 and low of 189.
