Skipper Limited was set up in 1981 and is a part of the SK Bansal Group.[4] Skipper Limited manufactures power transmission and telecom towers, tubular and hi-mast poles, railway electrification structures, solar structures (solar module mounting structures), electric resistant welded (ERW) tubes and polymer products (pipes and fittings). Skipper undertakes activity from angle rolling to fabrication and galvanising, proto assembly, load testing and EPC line construction. Skipper Limited is in the power distribution and transmission infrastructure sector and the polymer pipes and fittings industry.[5] Skipper Limited exports its products to more than twenty countries including South America, Europe, Africa, Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, and Australia.[6] HistorySkipper Limited was set up as Skipper Investments Limited in 1981 and began manufacturing Hamilton poles. Skipper Limited's name was changed to Skipper Steels Limited In 1990 and the production of the company diversified into the manufacturing of telecom towers and masts. In 2001, Skipper set up its first LPG cylinder manufacturing unit. In 2003, Skipper set up its first Tube mill and in 2005 it set up its first galvanizing plant. The revenue of the company crossed INR 1000 million in 2006 and in the same year it secured the approval from PGCIL for the setup of a tower unit of 400kV towers. Skipper tied up with Ramboll Denmark, a tower design company, in 2006.[7] In 2008, the company started implementing automated CNC to replace the manual Tower production process. In 2009, the company was renamed as Skipper Limited. Skipper received its first-in-India order of 800KV transmission towers from Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (PGCIL) in 2009 and commissioned its facility in Uluberia: with the first PVC unit and India’s first double-side Tube GI plant.[7] By 2013, Skipper Limited's revenue crossed INR 10,000 million. In 2015, Skipper Limited was listed at Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) with a market capitalization of over INR 15, 000 million (as of March 2015 ending). In 2016, Skipper Limited was listed in the National Stock Exchange (NSE) with a capital of INR 13,634 million (as of 31 March 2016).[8][9][10] In 2017, Skipper Limited commissioned its second plant in Guwahati, Assam, and in early 2018, approved a joint venture with Metzerplas, a manufacturer of drip irrigation solutions from Israel.[11] The Company todaySkipper Limited, of the SK Bansal Group,[12] is among the largest manufacturers of T&D structures in India. The company manufactures engineering and polymer products. In the financial year 2016, the segment-wise revenue performance of the company was INR 13,260 million for engineering products, INR 1,525 million for polymer products and INR 277 million for infrastructure projects.[12] The engineering segment of Skipper Limited produces power transmission towers, distribution poles, transmission-line monopoles, MS and HT angles, fasteners, tower accessories, solar structures, galvanized and black ERW pipes.[6] The infrastructural services provided by Skipper Limited include horizontal direct drilling, erection, painting, commissioning and power transmission EPC projects.[6] Skipper Pipes, under Skipper Limited, manufactures plumbing fixtures (UPVC, CPVC and SWR pipes and fittings) and agricultural solutions ( rigid pipes and fittings ).[5][4] In 2015, Skipper Limited set up a PVC manufacturing facility in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, with a capacity of 10,000 metric tonnes .[13] In 2015, the company set up a manufacturing facility in Guwahati, that has a capacity to produce 4000 tonnes of plumbing and agricultural pipes per year. It is situated in the Kamrup district near the airport.[14] In January 2016, Skipper Limited set up one of India’s largest galvanizing plants in Uluberia, West Bengal. The plant is meant for structures that are 2.5m in diameter and 12m in length. The total galvanizing capacity of this plant is 8000 tonnes per month.[15] In 2016, Skipper Limited set up two manufacturing plants – one in Hyderabad and the other in Secunderabad.[15] In 2017, Skipper Limited set up its second manufacturing plant in Guwahati, Assam with a capacity of 30,000 MTPA.[16] As of 2018, Skipper Limited has three manufacturing facilities in Howrah district in West Bengal, two in Guwahati, Assam[16] and one each in Ahmedabad, Secundrabad and Hyderabad. As of 2017, the cumulative production capacity of the Skipper Limited was 230000 MTPA.[17][18][19] In June 2018, the company reported a fall of 15% in net profit for the last quarter, with analysts blaming the drop on the decision to diversify into PVC pipes.[20] AwardsSkipper Limited received the 2015 CNBC Award For the Fastest Growing Transmission Tower Manufacturing Company.[21] Other awards include:
