The Special Counsel counter report is an expected report to contest the findings of Robert Mueller's special counsel investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 United States elections, obstruction of justice, coordination between the Trump Campaign and Russia, legitimacy of the special counsel investigation due to alleged conflict of interests surrounding Mueller, among other things that as of December 2018 was being developed by President Donald Trump's legal team.[1][2] It was acknowledged by President Trump via Twitter through a series of tweets on December 7, 2018.[3][4][5] The report according to President Trump and his legal team had started and is 87 pages long.[6][7] In the same tweet, Trump criticized The Atlantic for promoting fake news in an article[8] that detailed how the Trump Administration did not have a response to the special counsel's conclusions.[6] Rudy Giuliani, one of the President's lawyers, has said that it has been difficult to find the time to create the counter report.[9] It was initially reported back in July 2018, that a counter report was being drafted.[10] The counter report was acknowledged by Rudy Giuliani as early as August 18, 2018 in a tweet.[11][12]{{tweet|name=Rudy Giuliani|username=RudyGiuliani|date=August 18, 2018|text=Time for Mueller investigation to file report. One section will explore the legitimacy of Mueller's investigation due to conflicts of interest among federal law enforcement entities. The next section will respond to the hefty allegations brought upon Trump, the Trump campaign interacting with Russia, obstruction of justice, firing of James Comey, among other things.[1] According to Giuliani, back in August 2018, the first section of the counter report was 58 pages long and the second section has not been finalized.[1] On March 22, 2019, Mueller concluded his investigation and submitted the Special Counsel's final report to Attorney General William Barr.[13] Jay Sekulow and Giuliani said "We’re pleased that the Office of Special Counsel has delivered its report to the Attorney General pursuant to the regulations. Attorney General Barr will determine the appropriate next steps."[14] On March 24, 2019, Attorney General William Barr sent a four-page letter to Congress covering the highlights of the special counsel's findings. Barr split the letter into two sections: Russia's efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election, and the question of whether Trump obstructed justice. In the first section, Barr explained that the special counsel "did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its effort to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election."[15][16] Barr did add that the special counsel found "two main Russian efforts to influence the 2016 election."[15] On the question of obstruction of justice, Barr stated that Mueller did not reach a conclusion; he quotes the special counsel as saying "while this report does not conclude that the President committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him."[15] Trump repeatedly accused the Mueller investigation of conflicts of interests and "wrongly destroyed[ing] people’s lives."[17][18][19][20][21][22] The counter report is being worked on by:
