He belongs to Communist Party of India (CPI) and represents Itahar Constituency, Uttar Dinajpur, West Bengal. He is a Doctorate in Mathematics from IIT Kharagpur.^[1] Mukherjee was Minister of State for Civil Defense, Govt. of West Bengal.^[2]
