}}Sri Tirupatamma Katha (English: Story of Tirupatamma) is a 1964 Telugu biographical devotional film, based on the life of Penuganchiprolu Tirupatamma,[2] produced by Donepoodi Krishna Murthy under the Gokul Productions banner[3] and directed by B. S. Narayana.[4] It stars N. T. Rama Rao, Krishna Kumari in the lead roles[5] and music composed by Pamarthi.[6][7]

Plot

Approximately 200 years ago in a small village, Gopineni Paalem Andhra Pradesh. A couple, Kolla Sivaramayya & Rangamma pray for Lord Venkateshwara and they are blessed with a baby girl, Tirupatamma (Krishna Kumari), who is a great devotee of Lord Venkateswara. When Tirupatamma becomes sixteen years old her maternal uncle's son Gopayya (N. T. Rama Rao) visits their village and falls in love with her. Though Gopayya's brother Mallaiah (Gummadi) agrees for the alliance, his mother Venkamma (Suryakantham) and sister-in-law Chandramma (Hemalatha) object to it. But Gopayya does not listen to them and marries Tirupatamma. Afterward, Tirupatamma is subjected to many hardships in her in-law's house and she is not even allowed to meet her husband. Here frustrated, Gopayya is attracted towards a Deva Daasi Padmavathi (Rajasulochana). Knowing this, Mallaiah did not allow him to raise the money. So, he steals his wife's jewelry, the blame goes on Tirupatamma and her in-law's torture increase. Mallaiah not able to see the suffering of Tirupatamma and decides to bring back his brother. He moves to Padmavathi and asks her to leave his brother, but she did not agree. So, he sends his henchmen to forcibly vacate them, Gopayya obstructs them and Padmavathi begs kindly leave her house. In that anger, he reaches home when Venkamma and Chandramma make bad propaganda against Tirupatamma and make him suspect her chastity. Gopayya stabs her with the knife, when a lighting occurs, Venkamma is burned, Chandramma loses her eyesight then they reveal the truth. Tirupatamma makes them normal with her devotional power and dies. Gopayya also commits suicide out of contrition. At last, Lord Venkateswara (Ramakrishna) appears and tells that Tirupatamma has taken birth to give a message that wife and husband must live together and die together. Finally, Tirupatamma is adored as a deity at Penuganchiprolu temple till today.
