CareerSsewa Ssewa started doing music professionally in 2000. He co-founded Janzi Band[3] along with his friends in 2009 and has been the director since then. He has performed on many stages both in Uganda and abroad and working with so many musicians including and not limited to Quela Band,[4] Navio, A Pass, Isaiah Katumwa, Suzan Kerunen, Mame Ndiak, Giovanni Kiyingi and legendary Hugh Masekela. Ssewa Ssewa, just like his band Janzi Band, has majorly performed his music live. In his career, Ssewa plays a multitude of instruments and is a professional percussionist.[5] James Ssewa was one of the main performers at World Music Day in Uganda in June 2017 alongside Apio Moro, Haka Mukiga, Mame Ndiak, Jackie Akello and so many others. He performed together with Giovanni Kiyingi, a fellow multi-instrumentalist.[6] Janzi (Instrument)See main article on Janzi (Musical Instrument)The Janzi is a string instrument invented by Ssewa Ssewa. The instrument has been major on all Janzi Band and Ssewa’s setups since its inception. The Janzi is a re-modified Adungu, but the Janzi is a different instrument in terms of how it is tuned, played and its whole set-up.
