During World War I, she was torpedoed and sunk in the Atlantic Ocean {{convert|145|nmi|km}} west of Bishop Rock, Isles of Scilly ({{coord|49|20|N|10|00|W}}), on 20 April 1917 by the Imperial German Navy submarine {{SMU|U-84||2}} with the loss of one crew member.[1][2][3]A replacement ship of the same name, {{SS|Malakand|1919|6}}, was launched in 1919.
