}} The Steindachner's sea catfish (Cathorops steindachneri) is a species of catfish in the family Ariidae.[2] It was described by Charles Henry Gilbert and Edwin Chapin Starks in 1904. It is a tropical, marine and freshwater-dwelling catfish which occurs between Costa Rica and Peru. It dwells at a maximum depth of {{convert|20|m|ft|abbr=on}}.[3] It reaches a maximum total length of {{convert|36|cm|in|abbr=on}}, more commonly reaching a TL of {{convert|20|cm|in|abbr=on}}.[2] Due to insufficient statistical information on the species, the IUCN redlist lists the Steindachner's sea catfish as Data Deficient. It notes that pollution and coastal development pose a threat for the species.[3] It is marketed commercially, although its small size makes it an uncommon food fish.[2] References1. ^Synonyms of Cathorops steindachneri (Gilbert & Starks, 1904) at www.fishbase.org. {{Taxonbar|from=Q2529041}}{{Ariidae-stub}}2. ^1 2 {{FishBase |genus=Cathorops |species=steindachneri |month=October |year=2017}} 3. ^1 Cathorops steindachneri at the IUCN redlist. 2 : Ariidae|Fish described in 1904 |
