ContentThe six-track album was released digitally on 8 March 2016 by Mint 400 Records. ST EP 16 includes five songs written by drummer and vocalist Gabe Chiarello and one by bassist Matt Lambert, and was recorded "pretty much live."{{sfn|Pirate! Staff|2016}}{{sfn|Cantor|2016}} A Pirate! press release describes it as "power pop[,] reminiscent of radio favorites like Cheap Trick," who also compare the album to the music of Cloud Nothings, Sebadoh, Yuck, Lilys and Big Star.{{sfn|Pirate! Staff|2016}} In an interview with The Daily Progress, Gabe Chiarello explains "we've been recording and we have all this other material kind of like saved up–finished, basically," and "with every tour or release, it gets one step closer to being where we want it at."{{sfn|Cantor|2016}} ReceptionA review by music journalist Bob Makin in The Aquarian Weekly says that "Sink Tapes continue to concentrate on songwriting to the point of flirting with power pop, yet through an indie funnel that’s somewhere between the distortion of the Feelies and the raggedness of the Replacements." For the songs "Overnight Stay" and "Special Arrangement," he notes "the jangles could give way to solid jams that live could camouflage weak lead vocals[;] fortunately, they ironically get a boost from decent harmonies."{{sfn|Makin|2016}} Jim Testa writes in Jersey Beat "yes, this is the 16th EP from New Brunswick's Sink Tapes, who also seem to play two basements a week and still find time to tour (and presumably sleep once in a while.) The songs on "EP 16" retain Sink Tapes' trademark shoegazey sound but it's clear this band is growing exponentially."
