It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980.[1] It was built to replace the 1895 courthouse which later burned in 1922.[4] It is a two-story brick Classical Revival-style courthouse.[3] Its front and rear facades have identical projecting pedimented porticoes with four Tuscan columns.[4] The building's original cupola and clocktower have been lost.[4] It is at the center of the Lumpkin Commercial Historic District.
