Robert Fleming was widely respected on both sides of the Atlantic having amassed a large personal fortune investing in the American railroads. Stonehage was set up in 1976 as a multi-family office in London, by a number of South African families who had fled the apartheid regime.[4] PeopleGiuseppe Ciucci[5] was appointed Group CEO and Charles Erasmus,[6] former Chairman of Stonehage, was appointed Group Chairman.
