释义 |
Sugarloaf Rock, also known as Sugarloaf Rocks[1] and Sugar Loaf Rock,[1] is a large, natural granite island in the Indian Ocean just off the coast situated approximately {{convert|2|km|mi|1}} south of Cape Naturaliste[2] in the South West region of Western Australia. It is separated from the mainland by a thin channel of treacherous water. The rock is one of the most photographed attractions and it has appeared on the cover of the Australian Geographic magazine.[3] The rock derives its name from the distinctive conical shape reminiscent of an old style sugarloaf.[4] It is designated as a nature reserve and a nesting site for seabirds such as the red-tailed tropicbird.[4] The Cape to Cape track passes by the lookout to the rock.[2] Access to the rock was limited with no road down to the shore present until the mid-1930s;[5] the site was not well known in 1932, with visitors having to "scramble through thickets and down the cliff" to access the coast.[1] The first recorded drowning off the rock occurred in 1934 when a man was washed from it.[6] A danger sign was erected near the site later the same year.[7] Two more fishermen drowned when they were washed off the rock in 1940, with a third surviving by clinging to a ledge then raising the alarm.[8][9] References1. ^1 {{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article32666333 |title=Busselton Centenary. |newspaper=The West Australian |volume=XLVIII, |issue=9,292 |location=Western Australia |date=7 April 1932 |accessdate=18 February 2018 |page=14 |via=National Library of Australia}} {{coord|33.5593737|S|115.00535|E|display=title}}2. ^1 {{cite web|url=https://trailswa.com.au/trails/cape-naturaliste-to-sugarloaf-rock/print|title=Cape Naturaliste to Sugarloaf Rock, Dunsborough|accessdate=18 February 2018|publisher=Trails WA}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=https://www.margaretriver.com/members/sugarloaf-rock/|title=Sugarloaf Rock|accessdate=18 February 2018|publisher=Margaret River Region}} 4. ^1 {{cite web|url=https://parks.dpaw.wa.gov.au/site/sugar-loaf-rock|title=Sugarloaf Rock|accessdate=18 February 2018|publisher=Department of Parks and Wildlife}} 5. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article147575771 |title=Sussex Road Board |newspaper=The South-western News |volume=XXXI, |issue=1560 |location=Western Australia |date=15 March 1935 |accessdate=18 February 2018 |page=3 |via=National Library of Australia}} 6. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article147526155 |title=Frederick E.
