In June 2017 Sumesh Achuthan led the `Panthibhojanam' with residents of Ambedkar colony, Govindapuram [2]in Muthalamada for the accusing the Hindus of the neighborhood of practicing untouchability against the Chakkliyar community[3].The situation there was serious and it is a shame to progressive Kerala. In June 2017 Sumesh Achuthan visited Kanjikode, where the land was acquired for the coach factory, and symbolically placed a wreath on the Centre’s reported move to shift the proposed coach factory from Kanjikode to Haryana[4]He said that the United Progressive Alliance(UPA) Government had allotted the coach factory to Kerala, but the then Left_Democratic_Front_(Kerala) (LDF) Government took four years to acquire the land and hand it over. He said the local leadership of the Communist Party of India (Marxist)(CPIM) had not speeded up the process of land acquisition and M. B. Rajesh MP has blamed others for shifting the factory only to cover up this lapse. He also said Congress will oppose the move to hand over the land acquired to private players.

In July 2017, he asked to increase compensation for the loss of agricultural crops due to attack by wild animals, from INR 770 per coconut tree to INR 10,000 and INR 30,000 for rice crop. He asked the government to consider an insurance package for people affected by the attack[5]

In September 2018 Sumesh Achuthan talked about the complaint from the DYFI woman leader who had complained to the Mannarkkad Circle Inspector against Communist Party of India (Marxist)(CPIM) legislator P. K. Sasi against for the sexual harassment, the party later suspended him for six months over the complaint of sexual harassment filed against him.[6]
