Superposition benchmark - a benchmark, specialized software created on 3D Unigine engine for stress-testing.[1] of GPU, assessing the performance of a graphic system, checking the computer cooling system under the maximum heating power.

Superposition benchmark is a new-age test created for performance and GPU stability assessment.[2][3][4][5]

Technical features

  • GAPI support:
    • DirectX 11
    • OpenGL 4.5 [6]
  • A wide range of quality settings for different segments of GPU:
    • 720p Low
    • 1080p Medium
    • 1080p High
    • 1080p Extreme
    • 4K Optimized
    • 8K Optimized [7]
  • Supports Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, HTC Vive Pro and other SteamVR compatible devices;
  • Native support of Linux OS [8]
  • SSRTGI (Screen-Space Ray-Traced Global Illumination) dynamic lighting technology
  • Interactive contact with the environment (more than 900 objects)
  • Publication of the test results into the global test result table (in Advanced version)

Benchmark Interface and modes

The benchmark uses a special launcher to choose a proper mode and initiate the work[9].

There are three modes:

  • Benchmark
  • Game
  • Virtual Reality
Benchmark modeGame modeVirtual reality mode
This mode allows to set working parameters for the benchmark and the working conditions for GPU during the performance test. There are three test variations in this mode
  • The mode allows to examine the benchmark scene in details;
  • to try out interactive mini-games;
  • to change various parameters, effects, and buffers;
  • to examine in detail what constitutes a rendered scene.
This mode allows to test the entire system for VR applications use. The mode requires special equipment: HTC Vive helmet or Oculus Rift, as well as software: latest versions of Vive runtime and Steam client with the appropriate devices.
Performance - a basic test (duration - 2 min); the final result is given in the number of scores determining GPU performance, for example, in 1080p Extreme the best result is 13073 [10]
VR Ready? - a mode which allows to track performance simulating the VR helmet [11].
Stress - a test allowing to set up the duration of execution. It is aimed at equipment stability check.

Editions

  • Basic - a free benchmark for basic performance test, VR-Ready test without option to submit the scores to the global leaderboards, no Interactive VR mode. It is widely used by gamers.
  • Advanced - a version for basic performance tests, VR-Ready test, Stress test (specific time interval), Interactive VR mode, VR-Ready test, allows publishing results to the global leaderboards and is only for personal usage. It is widely used by overclockers.
  • Professional - a version for commercial use executing basic performance tests, VR-Ready test, Stress test (specific time interval), Interactive VR mode, VR-Ready test, allowing publishing results to the global leaderboards, providing standalone command line tool for automation, and providing support. It is used mostly by equipment manufacturers, gaming systems assemblers, and others[12].
