CareerMatharu is the founder and chairman for the Raj Academy Conservatoire, a non-profit organisation founded in 1994 that teaches the art of playing the ancient musical instruments of India including the Rabab, Taus, Saranghi and other instruments.[3] He is also founder and chairperson of the Naad Yoga Council founded in 2008.[4] Matharu has taught Indian classical music and Naad yoga in various places throughout the world including the UK,[5][6] Canada,[7] Germany,[8] Spain,[9] France,[10] and India,[11] with over 3000 students around the world.[12] In 2017, he launched the first documentary on Sikh Music called "Sikh Musical Heritage: The Untold Story".[13][14] Early lifeMatharu was born and brought up in India and like many Sikhs hails from an Indian military family.[15] In his younger years he would spend time with Yogis, Sadhus and Spiritual people.[16] He learnt Indian Classical Music under the Guru- Shishya Parampara (intensive personal training under a master) with Pandit Kharayti Lal Tahim.
