It is a Grade II* listed building. History and descriptionThe Hendre was the country home of the Rolls family since the 18th century{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=247}} and, as the fortunes of the family rose, was subject to three major expansions in the 19th and 20th centuries, to the designs of George Vaughan Maddox,{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=250}} then Thomas Henry Wyatt,{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=250}} and finally Aston Webb.{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=250}} Webb constructed the Cedar Library at the main mansion in the very late 19th century{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=250}} and in 1905 designed the Swiss Cottage.[1] The architectural historian John Newman described the cottage as "a sweet little thing but not particularly Swiss".{{sfn|Newman|2000|p=516}} The cottage is single-storeyed, with a dormer above, and is constructed of old red sandstone.[1] Cadw notes influences from Lutyens and Voysey.[1] Notes1. ^1 2 {{cite web|url=http://cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net/reports/listedbuilding/FullReport?lang=en&id=2857|title=Listed Buildings - Full Report - HeritageBill Cadw Assets - Reports|website=cadwpublic-api.azurewebsites.net}} References
