The mountain and its surrounding landforms is geographically close to the volcano in the center of ilha do Faial, of which the peak is a part.[1] The whole system has a maximum elevation at Cabeço Gordo, which is {{convert|1043|m|ft}} above sea level. Tambroso itself reaches {{convert|506|m|ft}} above sea-level and is near Alto da Pedreira, another local peak, and the town of Ribeirinha.[1] See also{{Portal|Portugal|Geography}}
