}}Tara Palmeri (born September 1, 1987) is an American journalist who works as ABC News' White House correspondent.[2] Most recently, she was a Politico White House correspondent, and served as a CNN Political Analyst.[1] Previously, she worked as a reporter and columnist for Politico's European edition in Brussels, while also serving as a CNBC contributor.[3][4][5]

Personal life

Palmeri was born on September 1, 1987 in New York. She attended American University in Washington, D.C. and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Communication.[6]

Career

Palmeri started her career at CNN as a News Assistant in the D.C. Bureau in 2009. She subsequently joined the Washington Examiner where she co-wrote a daily column called "Yeas & Nays."[6][7][8] In 2010, she moved to the New York Post to write for the paper's Page Six gossip column.[9] In 2012 she worked as a general assignment reporter and covered stories including the John Edwards trial, the Newtown Connecticut massacre, the 2012 Democratic National and Republican National conventions and the Jovan Belcher murder-suicide. In 2014, she began covering politics as a New York City Hall reporter. Palmeri broke the story for the New York Post that New Jersey Governor Chris Christie underwent lap band surgery to lose weight.[10]

Palmeri moved to Brussels in 2015 to cover European Politics for Politico.[11] Shortly after the 2016 Presidential election, she moved back to Washington, D.C. to report on the Trump administration.[12] During her tenure as White House reporter for Politico, Palmeri has broken exclusive stories, including one on White House staffers who failed FBI background checks, which led White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer to call Palmeri "an idiot with no real sources."[13] In May 2017, it was announced that Palmeri would be joining CNN as a political analyst for the network, while continuing to cover Trump for Politico.[14] In October 2017, it was announced that Palmeri was leaving Politico and CNN to join ABC News.[15]
