}} The Tatvan Massacre is the name given to a 11 June 1992 event in which 13 civilians were executed by Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) guerrillas in the Tatvan district of Bitlis Province, Turkey. On 11 July, 1992, the bus carrying passengers was stopped by guerrillas who were carrying out illegal road control. Thirteen passengers, including the driver, were kidnapped and later executed with more than one thousand bullets.[1][2][3] BackgroundIn the early 1990s, during the peak of the Kurdish-Turkish conflict, the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) had increased its attacks on civilians in Southeastern Turkey.[4] The organization was targeting the families of the security forces, and civilians it believed to have cooperated with the state. Ordinary workers who were serving the government entities were also targeted by the organization.[5]{{Failed verification|date=February 2019}} IncidentOn 11 June 1992, a bus carrying passengers to Sütlü hamlet was stopped by a group of PKK guerrillas. The passengers were kidnapped and taken to a place, one kilometer away from the hamlet, where they were executed with more than one thousand bullets.
