The type species is T. campbelli.[1] It is the oldest known member of the family, about 25 million years old. The presence of a member of this family with this age supports the hypothesis of a South American origin for the Teratornithidae.[2] References{{portal|Birds|Brazil|Paleontology|Paleogene|Prehistory of South America}}1. ^Taubatornis at Fossilworks.org {{paleo-bird-stub}}2. ^{{cite journal|last1=Olson|first1=Storrs L.|last2=Alvarenga|first2=Herculano M.
