HistoryThe Auburn & Lidcombe Advance was printed and published by Alf Membrey, at his printing works located at 32 Auburn Road, Auburn.[2] The first issue was released in c. 1920, and the paper was published weekly on Thursdays for the cost of one penny.[3]By 1933, Membrey's printing works had relocated to 52 Auburn Road, Auburn.[4] In 1934 The Auburn News & Lidcombe Advance became a free community newspaper, with the volume number reverting to I. By December 1935, the paper had a guaranteed circulation of 10,000.[5] By March 1937, the newspaper had been retitled The Advance,[6] and Membrey's printing works had moved again, this time to Queen Street, Auburn.[7] By the end of 1939 The Advance had reverted to a subscription-based newspaper, once more costing readers one pence.[8] The Advance ceased publication during World War II, due to the difficulties Membrey had in securing both staff and newsprint.[9]AvailabilityOnly a total of 14 issues of The Auburn & Lidcombe Advance and The Advance, dated between 1925 and 1939 exist in hardcopy, which are held by the State Library of New South Wales.[10] Gosford Micrographics Pty Ltd filmed the available issues of The Auburn & Lidcombe Advance and The Advance onto a single reel of microfilm in April 2000. This microfilm can be viewed at the State Library of New South Wales and the Cumberland Library Service.[10][11] All available issues of The Auburn & Lidcombe Review are available online via the National Library of Australia's Trove website.[12] References1. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-page25872816 |title=The Auburn and Lidcombe Advance |newspaper=The Auburn And Lidcombe Advance |volume=XIII, |issue=23 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=8 June 1933 |accessdate=22 November 2017 |page=1 |via=National Library of Australia}} 2. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-page25872803 |title=Publisher statement |newspaper=The Auburn and Lidcombe Advance |volume=VI, |issue=374 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=12 January 1928 |accessdate=29 November 2017 |page=8 |via=National Library of Australia}} 3. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-page25872796 |title=The Auburn and Lidcombe Advance |newspaper=The Auburn and Lidcombe Advance |volume=VI, |issue=374 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=12 January 1928 |accessdate=1 September 2017 |page=1 |via=National Library of Australia}} 4. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article240066011 |title=Wins This Time |newspaper=The Auburn and Lidcombe Advance |volume=XIII, |issue=23 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=8 June 1933 |accessdate=1 September 2017 |page=8 |via=National Library of Australia}} 5. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-page25872852 |title=The Auburn and Lidcombe Advance |newspaper=The Auburn And Lidcombe Advance |volume=II, |issue=49 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=12 December 1935 |accessdate=1 September 2017 |page=1 |via=National Library of Australia}} 6. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-page25872860 |title=The Advance |newspaper=The Auburn And Lidcombe Advance |volume=IV, |issue=10 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=11 March 1937 |accessdate=1 September 2017 |page=1 |via=National Library of Australia}} 7. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article240066332 |title=Advertising |newspaper=The Auburn And Lidcombe Advance |volume=IV, |issue=10 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=11 March 1937 |accessdate=1 September 2017 |page=1 |via=National Library of Australia}} 8. ^{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-page25872876 |title=The Advance |newspaper=The Auburn And Lidcombe Advance |volume=VII, |issue=50 |location=New South Wales, Australia |date=14 December 1939 |accessdate=1 September 2017 |page=1 |via=National Library of Australia}} 9. ^'Obituary: Alfred Membrey.’ Review Pictorial, Vol. 8, No. 44, Wednesday, 22 November 1967, p. 1. 10. ^1 [https://primo-slnsw.hosted.exlibrisgroup.com/primo-explore/fulldisplay?docid=SLNSW_ALMA21100192150002626&context=L&vid=SLNSW&search_scope=EEA&tab=default_tab&lang=en_US State Library of New South Wales Catalogue entry] 11. ^Cumberland Council Library Catalogue entry 12. ^{{cite web|url= http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-title1319|title= The Auburn and Lidcombe Advance (NSW : 1925 – 1939)|publisher=Trove, National Library of Australia |accessdate=22 November 2017}} External links
