The Christmas Tree is a 1991 animated Christmas television special. It was produced and directed by Flamarion Ferreira, under her production company Flamarion Ferreira Films.

Plot

Heartless Mrs. Mavilda runs an orphanage where kids live in miserable conditions because she keeps all of the donation money for herself. She hires a new assistant who, along with Santa, helps children finally have a merry Christmas.

Release

The USA Network only aired this special once, in 1991. The Christmas Tree was also released on VHS tape in 1991, and on DVD in 2003, by GoodTimes Entertainment.^[1]

Reception

Within recent years, the special has received highly negative reviews, with many often considering it to be amongst the worst Christmas specials, with main criticism aimed towards the animation, voice-acting, editing, and writing. Though relatively unknown when it aired, the special garnered more attention after being reviewed by the Nostalgia Critic in the video “The Worst Christmas Special Ever”, in which he chided the special for being entertainingly bad.^[2] It was also featured on RedLetterMedia's Christmas special "A Very Cannon Christmas" in 2015.^[3]
