PublicationThe book was published by Plon in 1935. An English translation by Anne Green was published in 1936 under the title A Crime. It was republished in 1946 with the title changed to The Crime.[1] ReceptionKenneth D. Whitehead writes in the Encyclopedia of Catholic Social Thought, Social Science, and Social Policy: "Although the book contains unmistakable Bernanosian themes and treatments, it is not one of the author's best or most characteristic novels."[2] Marine de Tilly of Le Point reviewed the book in 2011: "Between detective novel and spiritual adventure, between the lyricism of the language and the discomfort caused by the investigation, Bernanos leads us to the end of the nose."[3] References1. ^{{Cite book|year=2000|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=myLDA0_brhcC&pg=PA139|title=Encyclopedia of Literary Translation Into English: A-L|page=139|isbn=1-884964-36-2}} {{Georges Bernanos}}{{DEFAULTSORT:Crime}}2. ^1 {{Cite book|last=Whitehead|first=Kenneth D.|year=|url=https://books.google.com/books?id=N3zM1injK8QC&pg=PA27|chapter=Bernanos, Georges (1888–1948)|title=Encyclopedia of Catholic Social Thought, Social Science, and Social Policy|page=27|isbn=978-0-8108-5906-7}} 3. ^{{Cite web|last=Tilly|first=Marine de|date=2011-03-27|url=http://www.lepoint.fr/livre/un-crime-de-georges-bernanos-28-03-2011-1312449_79.php|title=Un crime, de Georges Bernanos|language=French|work=Le Point|accessdate=2016-02-29|quote=Entre polar et aventure spirituelle, entre le lyrisme de la langue et le malaise provoqué par l'enquête, Bernanos nous mène jusqu'au bout par le bout du nez.}} 3 : 1935 French novels|French-language novels|Novels by Georges Bernanos |
