[1]The painting is a reproduction of an oil painting by George Catlin depicting the chaotic lifestyle of New York City's Five Points district, a notorious slum on the Lower East Side. Unlike Catlin's painting, the reproduction was itself reproduced many times, notably in an 1855 guide to New York City. One of these reproductions is currently on display at the Metropolitan Museum's Gallery 758.[1][2][3] References1. ^1 {{Cite web|url=https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/20891?sortBy=Relevance&what=Paintings&od=on&ft=*&offset=0&rpp=100&pos=58|title=The Five Points|publisher=Metropolitan Museum of Art|access-date=2018-07-31}} {{DEFAULTSORT:Five Points}}{{19C-painting-stub}}2. ^Five Points, 1827.http://gerardkoeppel.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/11/FivePoints.pdf 3. ^{{Cite web|url=https://herb.ashp.cuny.edu/items/show/1713|title="Five Points, 1827" · HERB: Resources for Teachers|website=herb.ashp.cuny.edu|language=en-US|access-date=2018-07-31}} 2 : 1827 paintings|Paintings of the Metropolitan Museum of Art |
