The Horne Section are a musical comedy band, appearing regularly on radio, TV and stage. Since 2018 they have also had their own regular podcast.

Led by frontman and comedian Alex Horne the band mix music with comedy[1] and specialise in comedy/spoof songs[2] as well as performing a wide variety of more traditional genres, particulary jazz.[3] The band, which features two childhood friends of Horne, is made up of professional musicans and first performed together in May 2010.[4] The Horne Section have performed regularly at the Edinburgh Festival,[5] as well as touring the UK.[6]

Celebrity guests at their shows have included Harry Hill, Simon Amstell, Jimmy Carr, Tim Minchin, Josie Long, Al Murray and John Oliver as well as musicians such as Suggs and Neil Hannon. The podcast has featured guests including Adam Buxton, Richard Osman, Susie Dent and Tim Key.[7]

The Horne Section filmed a special television show at the London Palladium with guests Sue Perkins, Joe Wilkinson, Sara Pascoe and Nadine Coyle from Girls Aloud which was broadcast on UK TV channel Dave.[8][9]

The Horne Section Podcast was in the top 10 most streamed podcasts from the Deezer platform in 2018.[10]

The current musical line-up of the band consists of Ben Reynolds (drums), Joe Auckland (Trumpet & Banjo), Mark Brown (Saxophone & Guitar), Will Collier (Bass & Guitar) and Ed Sheldrake (Piano). Sheldrake replaced original pianist Joe Stilgoe in 2011 and is jokingly referred to as 'the temporary pianist', with Horne deliberately forgetting his name during shows. Saxophonist 'Pedro' also appears with the band, usually filling in for Mark Brown.
