The lobe on the top of the anther has a few small lumps on its back and the side lobes are white or yellow and have irregular lobes. Flowering occurs from October to December and is more prolific after fire the previous summer. The flowers are insect pollinated and open on warm days.[2][3]Taxonomy and namingThelymitra erosa was first formally described in 1998 by David Jones and Mark Clements from a specimen collected near Blackmans Bay and the description was published in Australian Orchid Research.[4] The specific epithet (erosa) is a Latin word meaning “eaten away", "consumed", or "corroded",[5] referring to the irregular edges of the column arms.[3]Distribution and habitatThe striped sun orchid grows in coastal heath in moist places, often on the edge of tracks and is only found in Tasmania.[2][3] References1. ^{{WCSP | 204741 | Thelymitra erosa }} 2. ^1 2 {{cite book|last1=Jones|first1=David L.|title=A complete guide to native orchids of Australia including the island territories|date=2006|publisher=New Holland|location=Frenchs Forest, N.S.W.|isbn=1877069124|page =250}} 3. ^1 2 {{cite journal|last1=Jones|first1=David L.|title=Contributions to Tasmanian Orchidology|journal=Australian Orchid Research|date=1998|volume=3|pages=184–185}} 4. ^{{cite web|title=Thelymitra erosa|url= https://id.biodiversity.org.au/instance/apni/574912|publisher=APNI|accessdate=25 May 2018}} 5. ^{{cite book|last1=Brown|first1=Roland Wilbur|title=The Composition of Scientific Words|date=1956|publisher=Smithsonian Institution Press|location=Washington, D.C.page=308}} External links
