词条 | Theta nigrum |
释义 |
The theta nigrum ("black theta") or theta infelix ("unlucky theta") is a symbol of death in Greek and Latin epigraphy.[1] Isidore of Seville notes the letter was appended after the name of a deceased soldier and finds of papyri containing military records have confirmed this use.[1] Additionally it can be seen in The Gladiator Mosaic. The term theta nigrum was coined by Theodor Mommsen, but It consists of a circle with a diagonal line. The Theta signified Thanatos, the Greek deity of death.[2] References1. ^1 {{cite journal |last=Mednikarova |first=Iveta |last2= |first2= |date= |title=The Use of Θ in Latin Funerary Inscriptions |url= |journal=Zeitschrift für Papyrologie und Epigraphik|volume=136 |issue=|pages=267–276 |doi= |access-date=2017-03-23}} {{death-stub}}2. ^[https://books.google.de/books?id=Mt9FAQAAMAAJ&hl=de&pg=PA229#v=onepage&q=Theta&f=false A Dictionary of Latin Phrases] 3 : Cultural aspects of death|Symbols|Epigraphy |
