He succeeded fellow Republican Allen Fletcher, who did not seek a fifth term in the position. BiographyA 2000 graduate of the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston,[1] Oliverson is affiliated with U.S. Anesthesia Partners, which operates more than one thousand anesthesiology groups in Texas. He consults with physicians and dentists in regards to patient office surgery. In 2015, Oliverson and his wife, Jennifer, were named to the inaugural committee of Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, the presiding officer of the Texas State Senate.[2] The Oliversons home school their three children and reside in suburban Cypress, Texas. They are active members of Jersey Village Baptist Church, which was founded in Houston in 1956.[2] Political careerOliverson won the Republican House nomination over Kay Smith, 16,988 votes (70 percent) to 7,265 (30 percent).[3][4] No Democrat sought the position in the November 8 general election, held in conjunction with the 2016 presidential election.[5] Oliverson contends that property taxes in Harris County are "too high, and we need meaningful tax relief now." He supports automatic reductions in property tax rates when revenues increase above expected levels. He supports the "fair tax" system as a means to abolish property taxes.[6] Despite the overall Democratic sweep of Harris County, Dr. Oliverson handily won his second term in the state House in the general election held on November 6, 2018. He defeated the Democrat Fred Infortunio, 52,063 votes (68.5 percent) to 22,562 (29.7 percent). The remaining 864 votes (1.5 percent) went to the Libertarian Roy Eriksen.[7] {{Portalbar|Houston|Texas|Medicine|Politics|Conservatism|Baptist}}References1. ^{{cite web|url=http://doctor.webmd.com/doctor/thomas-oliverson-md-cfd2fdff-578e-44a7-9687-a2a754f759de-overview|title=Dr. Oliverson's Overview|publisher=doctorwebmd.com|accessdate=June 13, 2016}} 2. ^1 {{cite web|url=https://www.tlrpac.com/press-release/tlrpac-endorses-dr-tom-oliverson-house-district-130|title=TLRPAC Endorses Dr. Tom Oliverson in House District 130 |publisher=tlrpac.com|date=June 16, 2015|accessdate=June 13, 2016}} 3. ^{{cite web|url=http://elections.sos.state.tx.us/elchist273_state.htm|title=Election Results|date=March 1, 2016|publisher=Texas Secretary of State|accessdate=June 5, 2016}} 4. ^{{cite news|last1=Marshall|first1=Beth|title=Oliverson wins District 130 Republican primary|url=https://communityimpact.com/houston/news/2016/03/01/district-130-primary-election/|accessdate=12 January 2017|publisher=Community Impact Newspaper|date=March 1, 2016}} 5. ^{{cite news|title=Texas 130th District State House Results: Tom Oliverson Wins|url=https://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/texas-state-house-district-130|accessdate=12 January 2017|publisher=The New York Times|date=December 16, 2016}} 6. ^{{cite web|url=https://ballotpedia.org/Tom_Oliverson|title=Tom Oliverson|publisher=ballotpedia.org|accessdate=June 13, 2016}} 7. ^{{cite web|url=https://enrpages.sos.state.tx.us/public/nov06_331_state.htm?x=0&y=0&id=545|title=Election Returns|date=November 6, 2018|publisher=Texas Secretary of State|accessdate=November 10, 2018}} External links
