Based upon the Transformers franchise by Hasbro and Takara-Tomy, the series is a reboot of the previous comic book series that started with Infiltration in 2005 and concluded with Unicron in 2018, taking place in a new continuity that is separate from the Hasbro Comic Book Universe. The series focuses on Rubble, a new Cybertronian joined by Bumblebee and Windblade, and the events that occurred on Cybertron, which led to the war between the Autobots and Decepticons.[1] Plot"The World in Your Eyes" (#1-ongoing)A long time ago, when Cybertron was a commerce hub across the galaxy, there was an age of peace. Orion Pax, Senator of the Autobots, tries to have a talk with Megatron, Senator of the Ascenticons, about the tensions between factions around the planet, to no avail. A newly-forged Cybertronian named Rubble is joined by his mentors Bumblebee and Windblade to meet another Cybertronian named Brainstorm, but they found him dead outside his house. As Prowl and Chromia continue to investigate Brainstorn's death, Bumblebee convinces Wheeljack to get Rubble a job in the Tether as engineer. In the city of Tarn, Megatron and the Ascenticons are giving a speech when they are ambushed by snipers. CharactersCharacters in bold are new to the series.
ProductionBackgroundFollowing the bankruptcy and closure of Dreamwave Productions in January 2005, IDW Publishing acquired the Transformers comic book license in May and hired veteran writer Simon Furman to craft a rebooted continuity based on the Generation 1 toyline.[1] IDW's first Transformers title, set in its own continuity, was Infiltration, which was previewed with a #0 in October and formally launched with #1 in January 2006.[1] After having acquired the comic book licence of various other Hasbro properties throughout the years—such as G.I. Joe, Action Man, Rom, M.A.S.K., and Micronauts—IDW announced the Hasbro Reconstruction campaign in January 2016; a launch meant to converge these franchises in the same continuity, starting with the crossover event Revolution.[2] In April 2018, it was announced that this shared continuity, the Hasbro Comic Book Universe (HCBU), would end with Unicron in November.[3] DevelopmentTransformers was first announced by IDW Publishing on December 18, 2018.[4][5] The title is to be written by Brian Ruckley, and illustrated by Angel Hernandez and Ron Joseph,[5] and will start publishing issues twice-monthly in March 2019.[6][7] Ruckley described the writing opportunity as a "privilige", and stated that the title would be a great opportunity for new readers to familiarize themselves with the universe and characters of the Transformers franchise, which he describes as of the "biggest [and] best that science fiction has to offer".[8] Joseph would later leave due to personal matters, with Cachét Whitman replacing him.{{Citation needed|date=March 2019}} Collected editionsThe first trade paperback volume of Transformers is scheduled to be published in October 2019.[9] Hardcover
