It was founded by Albert Snelgrove as Grey Bus Service in 1924. It became Blue Bus Service (with a livery change) in the early 1950s and then Tranzit Coachlines in 1985.[1] It has a 46% shareholding in InterCity.[2] In 2018 Tranzit took over the operation of eight contracts in Wellington from NZ Bus and Mana Coach Service, giving it a 60% market share in the region. In Wellington it operates under the brand name "Tranzurban Wellington".[3][4][5] As part of a reorganisation of Auckland's northern bus network on the North Shore, "Tranzurban Auckland" became the contracted operator of the newly designated NX2 services (formerly the 881 route) on the Northern Busway from 30 September 2018.[6] FleetAs at August 2018, the fleet comprised 662 vehicles.[7] For the Wellington contract, 114 Optare MetroCitys will be purchased.[8][9][10] In Wellington, the company operates ten electric double decker buses on urban routes.[11] An additional 22 are expected to be in service by 2021.[12] References1. ^[https://tranzit.co.nz/our-history Reuniting Kiwis since 1924].
