}} Triangle Park is located at 400 W Main Street, Lexington, KY. It was officially opened to the people of Lexington on July 2, 1982 by triangle foundation.[1] Since the first opening of the park it has flourished and provides a variety of entertainment for local citizens. HistoryPrior to becoming a park, the block which is now known as Triangle Park was once occupied as a grocery, pharmacy, and at one point a furniture store. Triangle park was one of many projects completed by the triangle foundation and officially opened to the public on July 2, 1982. Triangle foundation was established by Alexander Campbell Jr. and a few other community leaders. Its original purpose was to help with projects that would be beneficial to the community. The triangle foundation has expanded its membership over the years to include more than 100 board members whose donations help fund the organization's projects. Since the development of Triangle Park, the triangle foundation has also created Equestrian Park at the Bluegrass Airport, Thoroughbred Park, and the Woodland Skate park. Robert L. Zion, a well-known landscape architect, designed Triangle Park. He also designed some of New York City’s most famous landscapes such as Samuel Paley Plaza, or better known as Paley Park, the atrium of the I.B.M. Building, and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden and the Museum of Modern Art. Robert Zion even called the fountain he designed in triangle park one of the more spectacular water features in the nation. FundingSince the park opened in 1982, the triangle foundation has paid for the maintenance and upkeep of the park. In 2010, the foundation paid for a renovation that cost over $50,000 in an effort to update and restore the park. This renovation included planting new Bradford pear trees, cleaning the concrete and replacing the electrical system. EntertainmentThe fountains in the park are often scenery in photo shoots, as well. Many people go downtown to take pictures for prom or engagement photos. In the summer, Triangle Park incorporates sand sculptures to their landscape, known as Sand in the City. Triangle park is a common place for citizens to hold social group meetings and book clubs, or relax. The entertainment surrounds the park, as well. There are many restaurants and stores, including Starbucks and H&M in Victorian Square. When nothing else is already planned, Citizens can also rent out the park to hold their own events. The information on how to do that can be found on their website’s planning guide.
